Staff Machine Learning Engineer Perception (f/m/d)

We’re Cruise, the self-driving ride-hailing service.
We are building the world’s most advanced, all-electric, self-driving cars to safely connect people to the places, things, and experiences they care about. We believe self-driving cars will help save lives, reimagine cities, redefine time in transit, and restore freedom of movement for many.

At Cruise, our engineers have opportunities to grow and develop while learning from leaders at the cutting-edge of their fields. With a culture of internal mobility, there's opportunity to thrive in a variety of disciplines. This is a place for dreamers and doers to succeed.

If you are looking to solve one of today’s most complex engineering challenges, see the results of your work in hundreds of self-driving cars, and make a positive impact in the world starting in our cities, join us.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Developing the next generation of high resolution radar sensors (imaging radar) for autonomous driving, we are currently staffing up our machine learning team to further improve our development of state-of-the-art deep learning based radar-centric perception algorithms and radar/camera early fusion algorithms.

What you will be doing:

  • You will work on developing existing and new deep learning based perception algorithms, using multimodal sensor data (camera/radar/lidar) for our core perception pipeline
  • On the research end, explore, prototype, validate, and iterate new algorithms
  • On the development end, optimize, productionize, and monitor / refine on-road performance of the models
  • Have a deep understanding of the business and operational impact for different technology tradeoffs, and able to balance effectively based on company’s need
  • Considered one of the technical leaders of the perception department who guides current and future technology choices
  • Enable other engineers on the team to be more effective through design and code that is easy to extend and contribute into
  • Be capable of influencing others and building consensus even over contentious technical debates
YOUR PROFILE
  • University degree (MSc or PhD) in computer science, information and communication technology, electrical engineering or similar
  • Excellent coding and software design skills (Python and C++)
  • Solid experience in at least one major machine learning framework: PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc.
  • Excellent mathematical foundation of machine learning / deep learning techniques
  • Extensive computer vision domain knowledge
  • Extensive experience with deep learning models (e.g. point cloud and image based 2D/3D object detection or similar)
  • Passion for cutting edge technology in machine learning and computer vision
  • Motivated to work and learn together in a collaborative team environment
  • Profound English language skills

Nice to have

  • Experience with radar data and radar data signal processing
  • Experience in deploying perception algorithms into real world environments
BENEFITS

While doing meaningful work is rewarding in itself, we also offer the following programs and benefits to support the extraordinary humans who serve as the backbone in making our self-driving cars go:

  • Competitive salary including a performance bonus
  • Capital accumulating benefits
  • Membership in the Body & Soul gym
